Advancement Ally - DuBron Rabb
Sr. Director of Development, CNAS
1. What is your full name and is there a meaning or story behind it?
DuBron Mosaun Rabb. Besides the fact that my parents thought they were being creative, there is no meaning nor story behind my distinctive name.
2. Pronouns:
he/him/his
3. How do you identify yourself or what is something you would like others to know about you?
I have a lot of identifiers; some more important than others: Male, Father, Husband, Christian, Veteran. I also identify as Black, although I am bi-racial.
4. What is your favorite comfort food?
Gumbo. I love the flavors and the history behind the dish.
5. What are your favorite cultural or family traditions?
Christmas is my favorite cultural holiday that my family and I celebrate the most. Decorating, cooking, attending religious services and exchanging gifts are specific Christmas family traditions.
6. What is something people wrongly assume about you? (biases, stereotypes, ethnic identity, etc.)
I think people assume that my spouse and I are of the same ethnic background.
7. If you could change/create any policy (campus, state or national) what would it be and why?
I would make it illegal to gerrymander voting districts.
8. If you could have any social justice superpower, what would it be?
Being able to show how decisions affect everyone.
9. What is something you enjoy doing for others?
I enjoy introducing people that have things in common.
10. What is something that makes you feel most alive?
Interacting with other people and learning more about others in a social setting.
11. If two (or more) worlds (i.e. music, artists, clothing, movies, eras, genres) could collide/collaborate, what would you choose?
Although they exist, I would like to see more documentaries about sports legends and music greats.
12. What is something that should be free but is not?
I think free access to quality healthcare for all would be ideal. There are socioeconomic and institutionalized factors that prevent everyone from having access to the same quality of healthcare. I think it's a shame that there are people who have to consider the financial aspect before calling an ambulance or visiting the hospital.
13. Which affiliations/clubs/organizations/hobbies have you been involved in?
In addition to the UA DEIB Committee, I am currently involved in UCR's Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFASA).
14. What makes you feel uncomfortable?
I feel more uncomfortable seeing others in awkward situations than being in awkward situations myself.
15. What is your favorite thing about working at UCR or your favorite UCR memory?
My favorite UCR memory was while I was in High School in the Upward Bound program. We would stay in the dorms for a few weeks during the summer.
